Meet The Band

.Denny Perreault-Vocals/Keys/Percussion         One of the original founding members of The Incredible Ides, with over 16 years of performing Denny started his musical career at the age of 8 when his parents started taking him to accordion lessons modeling after his father Vern who played accordion and had a family band called The Perreault Rhythm Boys for over 40 years. His parents later bought him his first six string guitar and he begin singing and jamming at family gatherings and with friends. At the end of Junior High School, together with friend Joe Johnson and others he was in his first band called The Saboteurs. This band evolved into a six man band called The Ides of March. The band later added a horn section, his brother Wayne on vocals and for several years toured a five state area, won numerous "battle of the bands" competitions, opened for The Monkeys twice in front of 10,000 screaming fans, and performed on television following The Boxtops of "The Letter" fame. The band later dropped the "of March" from the name and went simply by "The Incredible Ides". When The Ides disbanded he continued his singing career in a band called Earthward with friends Terry Miller and drummer Jimmy Hyde, (both had played in The Ides for a short time), Hyde later moved to Nashville and was Eddie Rabbit's drummer for 20 years. Denny also played in numerous school based bands while attending Nashwauk-Keewatin High School, Hibbing Community College, and Moorhead State University. He began playing tenor saxophone in high school and continued that into college playing in jazz bands, concert bands, and a European Tour. Throughout this time he continued training and performing lead vocals as well as playing sax, percussion, and keyboards. While at Moorhead State U. he auditioned for a lead vocalist spot with an eight piece horn band called Americka which he toured with for several years. He earned a degree in music while at Moorhead State University, where he also took up the bass guitar and formed his last band during his college days called Colours with friend Dave Grosz. The band performed mostly in the nightclub and hotel circuits. He played bass guitar and shared lead vocal responsibilities with Mary Getz who later was a three time winner on the television hit "Star Search". Denny's favorite musical styles are: Rhythm and blues with some funk and soul mixed in, rock and classic rock , some country rock, swing and jazz. Musical Influences on his career include: His father Vern, The Fabulous Flippers, The Roaring Reddogs, (Kansas bands), The Uglies, The Cornerstones, Michael's Mystics, Chicago, Average White Band, James Brown, B. B. King, Michael McDonald, The Eagles, Bonnie Raitt, and numerous classic rock and blues bands. His personal musical philosophy is: "Live music" is the best so work with the best musicians and showmen you can to create and play a classy style of music people like to dance and listen to.

.Jim Pietila-Drums & Vocals 25 years playing experience. Musical styles include; country, rock, jazz, variety, alternative country, 40's - today. Member of many bands including; Black Dexter, Sergeant Rock, Telstar, Wild Cherry, Free Agent, Out All Night, The Benders, Trashville, Triple Shot, Crossroads, Badland Boogie Band and many more. Musical influences include; Rush, ZZ-Top, The Police, Buddy Rich, The Tragically Hip, Pat Travers, Waylon and Willie, Mozart and too many others to mention. Opened for such acts as; Asleep At the Wheel, The Ozark Mountain Daredevils, G.B. Leighton, ZZ-Top, Night Ranger, Commander Cody, Trace Atkins and a bunch of others. Favorite Concerts include; Rush 76', Buddy Rich @ Hibbing High School (from backstage), ZZ-Top 79', and a few others. Equipment used; DW Drums and UFIP cymbals, black Hush Puppies. Favorite quote; "Fast is fine, but accuracy is everything". Wyatt Earp.

 

.Dale DeMaris-Bass, Lead & Background Vocals 28 years playing experience, additional experience in recording & sound production. Performing experience in many musical styles: rock, country, blues, jazz, bluegrass. Performed w/touring groups throughout the U.S. 1980-82. Current & past groups: The Incredible Ides, Crossroads, Triple Shot, Badlands, Telstar, Lady & the Tramps, Interstate Express, Wild Cherry, Crystal Axe, Sgt Rock, Flash, Four Wheel Drive, Raven. Influences: James Jamerson (Motown), Duck Dunn (Booker T & the MG's, Stax), Paul McCartney, Jack Bruce (Cream), John Entwistle (The Who), Chris Squire (Yes), John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin), Greg Lake (ELP), Jaco Pastorius, Stevie Wonder's left hand. Favorite performances: Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Duluth '77; Rush - Duluth '82. Personal philosophy: Keep the groove in the pocket & the money will follow!

 

.Brett Reid-Lead Guitar/Vocals A Texas guitarist (Minnesota born), with nearly thirty-five years experience, has recorded with Texas legends Johnny Winter, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Tommy Shannon, Uncle John Turner, and shared bills or stages with such artists as ZZ top, Black Sabbath, Blue Oyster Cult, Alice Cooper, Foghat and many others including Blues greats Muddy Waters, Lighting Hopkins, B.B.King, John Lee Hooker, Big Mamma Thornton, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Delbert Mclinton and again, many others. Highlights include a European Tour with Grammy winner Marc Benno featuring an appearance on "Ohne Filter" an "American Bandstand" styled television program that has broadcast for over forty years from Baden Baden Germany, and has a nationwide audience of eighty million weekly. Headlining the show was longtime hero Alvin Lee (Ten Years After). Since returning to Minnesota, Brett has performed with regional artists "Huddathunkit", The "Jig Rockin' Ore Dogs", "Dick Danger and the Bullets", and is currently a member of "Trashville" and "Crossroads" from Grand Rapids, Minnesota, playing bass guitar on Trashville's  debut recording and live engagements. Brett also likes to "step out" with bandmates Jim Pietila on drums and Dale Demaris on bass guitar in their collective effort, "Triple Shot". Musical influences: Delta and early Chicago Blues, Classic British Rock, Motown, Stax/Volt, and "everything else to a slightly lesser degree". Favorite Guitarist: Jimi Hendrix. Philosophy: "I've always been able to effortlessly follow the advice of the greats and play with musicians of greater skill".

.Sander Grotjohn-Trumpet/Flugelhorn/Vocals Sander Grotjohn has been playing trumpet for 25 years. He earned a B.A. in trumpet performance at the University of Minnesota, Morris were he played in Jazz I, Concert Band, numerous jazz combos, and did multiple solo recitals. He has been the band director in the Greenway school district for 12 years, and while in Grand Rapids has played with the Itasca Brass, Itasca Symphony Orchestra, Grand Rapids Big Band, Grand Rapids Wind Ensemble, the Showboat Band, many pit orchestras for the Grand Rapids Players and directed the Pit Orchestra for a production of "Damn Yankees". What's on my IPod: Miles Davis, Dave Matthews Band, Tower of Power, John Mayer, Santana, Bob Marley, & Parliament. Horn: Yamaha Xeno Trumpet, Monette B4S Mouthpiece.

 

 

.Don Vidal-Tenor/Alto Sax/Vocals For years Don Vidal has been delighting audiences with his soulful performances on saxophone. Vidal incorporates into his musical vocabulary a range of styles from Rock, Blues, Funk, Reggae, Swing, Folk, Jazz and the Classics. A well known Minnesota musician/composer who has performed with artists/groups such as Captain Jack McDuff, Willie Murphy, Bill Hinkley, John “Spider John” Koerner, Conga Se Menne, Big John Dickerson and Downright Tight, Frank Mantooth, Prudence Johnson, Renee Austin, Rex Richardson, Carl and Booka Michel, R.C. Banks, Dick King Classic Swing, Tommy Dorsey Big Band, Connie Evingson, Blew Munday, 5 on the 4, Mr. Pumpkinhead, Ruby Sky, Tim Wick, Sam Miltich and the Clearwater Hot Club and many more. Vidal never yields in his musical exploration be it composing or improvisation.

 

.Scott Shrimpton-Trombone/Vocals                     Scott attended Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota and obtained degrees in music education and theatre. He has taught band and choir in schools and churches in eastern Montana and southwestern and northern Minnesota. Currently, he is the choir director at Grand Rapids High School. Scott is also a member of the Applechords, a local barbershop quartet, and the Mariners, an eight member mens gospel/western/barbershop group. In addition, he has performed with the Itasca Symphony Orchestra, Itasca Brass, Grand Rapids Big Band, and has played in or directed the pit orchestra for numerous local productions.
